BMI means Body
Mass Index
The BMI is a parameter that will tell you if
you are really overweight and better go on a weight loss
diet .It will also tell if you are
underweight. Fat , overweight, obese or just running after
the latest fad of being skinny ,one should know where
he or she stands.
It can be calculated with this simple
formula:
BMI=kg/m²
Meaning the person's weight in kilograms
divided by height in meters squared.
Or to make it easier :take your weight (in
kilograms )and divide it by your height( in meters),then take
the result and divide it again by your height(in meters).That
result is your BMI.
what does the BMI result
mean:
18.9 or less -Underweight
19-24.9 -Normal
25-29.9 -Overweight
30-39.9 -Obese
40 or greater -Extremely Obese
To this parameter you should add a measurement
of your waist.
A Normal waist scope for
a woman is 88 cm and less.
A Normal waist scope for
a man is 102 cm and less.
The BMI ignores the distribution of body fat
.There is an apple-shape obesity where
the fat is concentrated around the abdomen ,and there is a
pear-shape obesity where the fat is
concentrated on the hips ,buttocks and thighs. The apple shape
obesity is more common in man and the pear shape obesity is
more common in women .Apple shape people are considered more
likely to develop health problems related to obesity.
If both measurements , the BMI and the waist
scope indicate that your weight is over the normal values you
should probably go on a weight loss diet. If you are taking any
medications or if you are not perfectly healthy you better
consult your doctor regarding a weight loss program you should
follow.
